Audit of Teacher Workload

In 2011, Shelby was engaged by the Department of Education to conduct an audit of teacher workloads. We carried out site visits to 36 schools around the state, identifying teacher face to face teaching, DOTT and yard duty times as well as their attendance at parent meetings, teacher meetings and out of school activities. We surveyed these teachers and an additional 36 schools regarding their out of hour teaching preparation, marking and other commitments, as well as their perceptions regarding particular workload issues. In total, data for around 1,000 teachers was analysed and reported. The final report provided a comprehensive overview of teacher workloads and insightful comparative analysis to support the findings.
