Literature Review: Good Practice in Aboriginal Mentoring Systems

In 2011 Shelby was contracted to write a review of Aboriginal mentoring programs and mentor training programs in Australia and internationally, identifying, analysing and comparing different mentoring models. The review examined relevant literature, evaluations on Indigenous workplace mentoring, and Australian mentoring guidelines. Due to the scarcity of information, the review was extended to include ‘grey’ literature and examples of Aboriginal mentoring programs provided through interviewing mentoring providers. The key elements of ‘good practice’ in mentoring for Aboriginal people were described, and illustrated with case studies.
